Camp America

Hey Again,

Ever since a young age and heard about Camp America I wanted to apply so after the pandemic it felt like a perfect time. I started to apply for the summer of 2022 which was exciting as well as nerve-racking.  I thought one of my first posts should be me talking about the process of applying to Camp America. Once starting the process I realised how easy the whole application was from first applying up until getting on the flight, the program took me through it step by step to make sure I had everything ready for the best summer ever!

Camp America recruits staff for USA summer camps, they have been doing this for over 50 years. The process is really easy. I applied online, this is where you fill out everything about yourself, skills, any certificates, availability, etc. After all that was filled out an informal interview with a Camp America representative was conducted. At the interview they chat about your application and you can ask any questions. Once passing the interview your application is visible for camps to view. Since I applied close to the deadline, I got a reply from a camp quickly however it could take weeks.

Once I had been accepted to a camp, it was then onto getting the right documents like medical form from a GP, background check (DBS) and work visa. for the medical form I went to my GP and asked them to complete the form, this took a long time and I had to chase them up for it. The cost of this form was roughly £24 however this can change depending on the GP.

Getting the visa started with me booking an online appointment where I had the option to either go to the London embassy or the US consulate general in Belfast however, I chose Belfast because it was cheaper to travel there. Before leaving to Belfast, I made sure I had all my documents which were:

  •  Passport
  • DS-2019 form
  • DS- 160 conformation form
  • Appointment instruction page
  • US style visa photographs
  • SEVIS receipt
  • proof of return documents

At the appointment me and other people were sat in a room then one by one were called up to show all our paperwork. It was a daunting experience because I was scared, I forgot the documents but thankfully it was approved. Don't worry because you are not the only one who feels nervous. My passport was kept there for checks and a week later I received it in the mail. Once getting home I ticked approved on the Camp America website.

Next, it's time to pack and get ready for the flight!!!

What are you waiting for have the summer of a lifetime!!
