Hey,
Thanks so much for all the support on my previous posts!
Now you might be wondering why I took a 30mins Uber ride to go to Covington from Atlanta. Well… two words vampire diaries, that’s right I travelled to that location because one of my favourite tv shows was filmed there. Genuinely I have never been more excited for something, I had been waiting for years to go to this place. Two months in advance I booked the Mystic Falls Tour that takes you around the various filming locations.
Covington Square
The small town of Covington is a gorgeous location. Many tv shows and film projects have used the small town as the backdrop in scenes for example Dukes of Hazzard, Selma, Halloween II, and many more. However, it is ultimately known for The Vampire Diaries, home of the production from 2009- 2014. Around the town, there is the Covington "Walk of fame" which honours the various productions filmed in the location. As well as aspects shown within shows. Within the town, there are restaurants to dine in and shops to splurge your money in. I had a lovely Caesar salad at Your Pie Pizza located opposite Mystic Grill.
Mystic Falls Tours
The Mystic Falls tour is a guided tour that takes you around to the various film locations of The Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Legacies. The tour lasts 2 hours long, costs $55 per person, and is a tram tour with moderate walking.
One of the best aspects of it is that the tour guides are all avid fans with a wide range of knowledge about the show plus they have met most of the cast and been around when the show was being filmed. It's great to hear all the personal interactions with the actors.
Some of the locations visited are the town square, Caroline Forbes and Elaine Gilbert's house as well as exclusive access to the Lockwood Mansion. At the Lockwood Mansion, we were able to ask the owners of the house questions about the filming process.

The garden behind the Lockwood Mansion was where they shot some iconic scenes such as Caroline and Klaus kiss, Stefan and Caroline's wedding, and the Miss Mystic Falls.

Personally, it was crazy to be there I had watched the tv show for years and couldn't believe I was actually there, the staff were so friendly and offered to take people's photos which was excellent since I was there alone. After the tour, you can also check out the museum full of memorabilia like costumes.
Scoops
Whilst visiting Covington you must stop into Scoops a colourful ice cream shop where most of the cast would hang out during their breaks. On the tour, we were told the cast's favourite order Ian Somerhalder was the banana pudding milkshake. Obviously, when I went to Scoops I had to purchase that milkshake.
On Location Gifts
If your a fan of The Vampire Diaries looking for merchandise then this is the place for you. The store is located opposite the historic courthouse which was in many memorable scenes in the show and the Clocktower was one of the main backdrops. Within the shop, you can purchase t-shirts, postcards, mugs, etc as well as some unusual items like blood bags. Correct I did say blood bags but don't worry it is just filled with an energy potion.
There is also merchandise for stranger things, walking dead and Sweet Magnolias fans. Another cool aspect of the store is the autographed wall, that's right actors who have visited or filmed in the location have signed the wall.
Mystic Grill
Now Mystic Grills is the restaurant where a lot of scenes from The Vampire Diaries were filmed. You are able to eat within the restaurant although I did not the food does sound amazing.
The Alley next to the Mystic Grill has been used during the filming of both The vampire diaries and Sweet Magnolias. The gift shop has lots of souvenirs plus more costumes and props from the shows.
If you're a fan of The Vampire Diaries then definitely take a trip down to Covington!!
Love this, always enjoy seeing where different shows are filmed.
