Chicago, Illinois
Hey,
After working as a camp counsellor, I travelled to states near Ohio. The first stop was Chicago. I took a Greyhound bus from Cincinnati through Indianapolis and finally stopped in Chicago.
I spent around three days exploring the city.
Day 1- 4th August 2022:
I said goodbye to my friends in Cincinnati and took off on a Greyhound bus heading for Chicago, stopping at Indianapolis. Indianapolis was lovely, I spent a few hours walking around the city before jumping on the bus to Chicago. It was about a 4-hour journey.
Once arriving at the bus station, I headed straight to the hostel called HI Chicago Hostel to check in. After checking in, I headed to the nearest CVS to purchase a padlock to store my items in the locker, as they don't provide one. After that I explored the hostel layout and location.
I would highly recommend the hostel because the staff were friendly and helpful, always clean and in a prime location in the city. Another benefit was that the price was reasonable.
Day 2- 5th August 2022:
Woke up early, ready to explore the city. On the first full day in the city, I went straight to Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate (bean). I did not realise how big the park was until I was walking around trying to find the bean and yes I did get lost a few times but eventually, I found it. Also Thanks to the lovely family who took my photo!
After taking photos of the landmark I took a walk down to the navy pier, this was cool to walk around because so many tv shows I watched have been filmed in this location such as Chicago PD. The views from the pier were stunning and there were many things to do such as the Ferris wheel, cinema and places to dine.
The Chicago Riverwalk was a great place to go for a walk because of the gorgeous scenery. There were many activities to do along the riverwalk like canoeing plus shops and places to have food/drink.
I decided to walk to the different theatres around Chicago specifically the Chicago Theatre. The comedian Joe Rogan was performing there which meant that the marque displayed his name. Sadly the show was sold out.
Day 3- 6th August 2022:
For my last day in the city, I visited the Bean a second time to take more photos of the scenery around then headed straight to the Nederlander Theatre where I saw the Devil Wears Prada musical. In Chicago, musicals get tested out before potentially going to Broadway so I was one of the lucky few to see it. The music was by Elton John. Another great part of the music was an actor from one of my favourite tv shows performed in the musical.
It was meant to be my last day in Chicago however I ended up missing my bus so had to stay one more night and catch the early bus.
Day 4- 7th August 2022:
Had to wake up around 3 am which was hard since I did not want to wake anyone else in the room as I was sharing a room with 5 other people. Decided to take an Uber to the bus station.
Next stop Nashville, Tennessee!!!!
