Covington , Georgia

Image
Hey,  Thanks so much for all the support on my previous posts!  Now you might be wondering why I took a 30mins Uber ride to go to Covington from Atlanta. Well… two words vampire diaries, that’s right I travelled to that location because one of my favourite tv shows was filmed there.  Genuinely I have never been more excited for something, I had been waiting for years to go to this place. Two months in advance I booked the Mystic Falls Tour that takes you around the various filming locations. Covington Square The small town of Covington is a gorgeous location. Many tv shows and film projects have used the small town as the backdrop in scenes for example Dukes of Hazzard, Selma, Halloween II, and many more.  However, it is ultimately known for The Vampire Diaries, home of the production from 2009- 2014. Around the town, there is the Covington "Walk of fame" which honours the various productions filmed in the location. As well as aspects shown within shows. Within...

Atlanta, Georgia

Hey,  Now Atlanta was one of my favourite destinations, when there I decided to take an hour car ride to Covington Georgia because one of my favourite tv shows of all time was filmed in that location. I spent around 5 days in the city. Day 1- 9th August 2022 I took a flight from Nashville to Atlanta, then figured out my way around the underground to get to my hotel. After getting settled into my room in the Marriott Marquis Hotel  where part of hunger games was filmed in the lobby, I went to get Chipotle for dinner.     The views from my hotel room were insane, especially during sunsets and sunrise. Day 2- 10th August 2022 Woke up nice and early so I would make it to the Mystic Falls Tour in Covington, Georgia. Will discuss more of this in my next blog post. Before leaving for the trip I had a lovely breakfast sandwich and mocha Frappuccino from Starbucks in the hotel. Click here to read-  Covington Blog Day 3- 11th August 2022 This day was a relax...

Nashville, Tennessee

Image
Hey Again, Hope you enjoyed my last post, this week is about my time in Nashville.  Now let me tell you it was an adventure just to arrive in the city. I was on the bus from Chicago which would then have a 30-minute layover in Indianapolis before heading to Nashville, Tennessee but of course, that did not go smoothly. There was no bus driver in Indianapolis able to take us meaning I would have to wait 6 hours for the next bus that would take me into the city in the early hours of the morning. That was not happening so I made the last-minute decision to book a flight and fly to Nashville. After this experience, I decided not to use Greyhound buses for the rest of my journey. Let me just say Nashville is a nice city whilst walking down the streets you can hear the country music coming from the bars and restaurants.  Sadly, I could only spend  one day in the city.  Day 1- 8th August 2022: Since I was only in the city for a day I tried to make the most of the experience ...

Chicago, Illinois

Hey,  After working as a camp counsellor, I travelled to states near Ohio. The first stop was Chicago. I took a Greyhound bus from Cincinnati through Indianapolis and finally stopped in Chicago.  I spent around three days exploring the city. Day 1- 4th August 2022: I said goodbye to my friends in Cincinnati and took off on a Greyhound bus heading for Chicago, stopping at Indianapolis. Indianapolis was lovely, I spent a few hours walking around the city before jumping on the bus to Chicago. It was about a 4-hour journey. Once arriving at the bus station, I headed straight to the hostel called  HI Chicago Hostel  to check in. After checking in, I headed to the nearest CVS to purchase a padlock to store my items in the locker, as they don't provide one. After that I explored the hostel layout and location.  I would highly recommend the hostel because the staff were friendly and helpful, always clean and in a prime location in the city. Another benefit was th...

Summer as a Camp Counsellor

Image
Hey,  Let’s  talk about my summer as a camp counsellor! In the summer 2022, I worked as a unit leader at Camp Molly Lauman in Ohio https://www.gsoh.org/en/camp/resident-camp.html . It was a girl scout camp and we would get new campers weekly.    1.  Accommodation                                                 My first memory of Camp Molly Lauman was the arched sign you drive through. The road leads past the pool, archery area and takes you up to the reception and main camp. Within the camp there are multiple units which either has platform tents, yurts or cabins.  2. Staff training/ induction week  Our staff training was a week of fun activities getting to know each other and the camp. We learnt the camp rules, first aid, and what we would do in certain situations. We also did a lot of practicing of camp songs.  One of the highl...

Camp America

Image
Hey Again, Ever since a young age and heard about Camp America I wanted to apply so after the pandemic it felt like a perfect time. I started to apply for the summer of 2022 which was exciting as well as nerve-racking.   I thought one of my first posts should be me talking about the process of applying to Camp America. Once starting the process I realised how easy the whole application was from first applying up until getting on the flight, the program took me through it step by step to make sure I had everything ready for the best summer ever! Camp America recruits staff for USA summer camps, they have been doing this for over 50 years. The process is really easy. I applied online, this is where you fill out everything about yourself, skills, any certificates, availability, etc. After all that was filled out an  informal interview with a Camp America representative was conducted. At the interview they chat about your application and you can ask any question...
